Abstract

The undertaken study intends to carry out the needs analysis of medical officers and to suggest a needs oriented course to meet the professional requirements. In this regard, insights are taken from the literature of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and English for English for occupational purposes (EOP). So far, the medical profession is concerned; medical practitioners need English language in their professional context. This research is a survey based and it investigated the communicative needs of the medical officers at a professional level. The research data was collected, quantitatively analyzed and interpreted by administering questionnaire among 100 medical officers of different hospitals of Baluchistan. The findings showed that the medical officers do not possess required proficiency of English language skills in the professional context. Finally, specific field oriented English language courses in order to effectively meet their communicative needs in professional target settings
